Linn Cove Viaduct

Day 167 of 365

On this first full day of my mountain road trip, I set out to explore the Blue Ridge Parkway between Blowing Rock and Linn Cove.  This stretch of the Parkway offers a number of striking views, and I stopped at almost every overlook to photograph.  It is my first experience photographing in the mountains, and I’m finding it a challenge to get my exposure just right.  Do I meter for the mountain greenery or for the clouds that drape those mountains?  I decided to play it safe and bracket like crazy — which means I’ll have to spend considerable time culling through the day’s photos.

This shot is my best capture of the Linn Cove Viaduct, which was built to avoid disturbing the ecosystem of Grandfather Mountain.
