Boiled Peanuts

September 12, 2009

As a friend said to me the other day, Daisy’s been sitting in that window for a long time.  The summer completely got away from me, and I gave almost no time to my photography interests.  I did take a few photos of Haywood Hall weddings, which you can find on the Haywood Hall blog

While I didn’t work in a lot of time for leisure this summer, I did make a few trips home in late August.  The timing was completely deliberate; I had to be sure to make it in time to enjoy my favorite summer treat — boiled peanuts.

New Website

March 28, 2008

Please take a look at my new website:  www.sheryllongphotography.com.  I still have content to add or modify, but I’m so exicited to have the website online.  If you have any suggestions, let me know.  I’m struggling to think of a name for that third category in my gallery, so I welcome your suggestions.

Artist Rising

January 24, 2008

Sorry, everyone.  I hadn’t intended to neglect the blog.  I’ve had some computer issues that have made it difficult to keep updated.

Now that I’m back, I wanted to let you know that I have a gallery with Artist Rising, a company that allows artists to sell prints online.  So far I have three photographs available, and over the next few weeks, I plan to add more.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

A Certain Quality of Spirit

December 31, 2007

“To use a camera as a means of artistic expression, a certain quality of spirit must be brought to aid light and air.”

                                Bayard Wootten, 1926

This quotation is one of my favorites, and I hope it sets the tone for this blog.  I’ve discovered that photography is so much more than being able to snap a good picture.  As an art form, photography requires an investment of the self.  But while the creative act may be intensely personal, I often feel an equally intense need to share the result, the creation.  From that need comes this blog.
